What does a celebrant offer?
A celebrant is someone who helps you celebrate the big moments in life—whether it's getting married, renewing your vows, naming a new baby, or honouring a loved one at a funeral.
Your celebrant is your personal storyteller. They listen to your ideas and preferences and then bring them to life for you in the service. Whether you want something traditional or totally out of the box, a celebrant is there to make sure the day feels just right for you. A celebrant focuses on moving away from the standardised, repeated structure, and is about making your special day truly meaningful and memorable.
It’s all about celebrating your moment in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to you.
Why have a celebrant-led ceremony instead of a religious or registrar-led ceremony?
Religious officiants typically conduct ceremonies based on the teachings of their religion. This normally means that all the rituals and readings are largely prescribed and your chance for personal expression and innovation is reduced. For example, having the ceremony in a place of worship, sticking to readings from religious texts, and including specific, traditional rituals such as songs of worship and prayers.
Registrars are government-appointed officials who handle the legal formalities, with the ceremonies once again more fixed in format, with fewer opportunities to adapt it to preference. Registrars also often have multiple ceremonies in a day, which can sometimes lead to time restrictions and may make things feel a bit rushed and perhaps reducing the romance of the occasion!
A celebrant is different.
While our ceremonies are not currently legally binding, a celebrant offers the freedom and flexibility to design your personal milestone, tailored to your individual values and story. There are no rigid templates or scripts - every detail is designed to reflect your unique story, beliefs, and personality. This can be really valuable if you and your partner come from different backgrounds with differing traditions. It’s also for those who would like a ceremony beyond the standard, or even a bit out of the ordinary. It’s all about celebrating your moment in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to you.

I have trained at the International College of Professional Celebrants, in which I was immersed in the world of celebrancy. I went through extensive training about ceremonies, rituals, and how best to support my clients.
